11:1 |
Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the
11:2 |
This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair. |
11:3 |
So the sisters sent word to Jesus, "Lord, the one you love is sick." |
11:4 |
When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it." |
11:5 |
Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. |
11:6 |
Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days. |
11:7 |
Then he said to his disciples, "Let us go back to
11:8 |
"But Rabbi," they said, "a short while ago the Jews tried to stone you, and yet you are going back there?" |
11:9 |
Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? A man who walks by day will not stumble, for he sees by this world's light. |
11:10 |
It is when he walks by night that he stumbles, for he has no light." |
11:11 |
After he had said this, he went on to tell them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen sleep; but I am going there to wake him up." |
11:12 |
So then he told them plainly, "Lazarus is dead, |
11:13 |
Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep. |
11:14 |
His disciples replied, "Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better." |
11:15 |
and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him." |
11:16 |
Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with him." |
10:38 |
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. |
10:39 |
She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. |
10:40 |
But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" |
10:41 |
"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, |
10:42 |
but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." |
11:22 |
"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. |
11:23 |
"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. |
11:24 |
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. |
8:12 |
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." |
9:5 |
While I am in the world, I am the light of the world." |
55:8 |
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. |
55:9 |
"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. |
10:36 |
You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. |
18:1 |
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. |
33:3 |
'Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.' |
1:2 |
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, |
1:3 |
because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. |
1:4 |
Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. |
