John 1:14-18 (C)

1. Can you explain biologically how the Word of God became flesh? (v.14, 1 Peter 1:23, Luke 1:29-35)

(v.4) In him (the Word) was (God's) life.
(1Peter 1:23) The Word has God's life in it just like there is life in a seed.
(Luke 1:29-35) The Word (God's life) was conceived with Mary's ovum in her womb by the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit.

2. Why did the Word of God become flesh? (Hebrews 10:5-7, Romans 8:3)

Answer

Jesus came down to earth to die on the cross and replace our death because of our sins. He offered His body as the atoning sacrifice to God for us.

3. Why did God choose Mary to conceive Jesus in her womb?

Answer

1) God promised to King David that the Messiah will come through his descendants. (2 Samuel 7:12-13)
Mary's husband, Joseph, was a descendant of King David through King Solomon. (Matthew 1:6, 16)

2) Jesus' body came from Mary who was also a descendant of King David through Nathan. (Luke 3:23, 31)

3) Jesus did not have a human father. He can be called as a son of Mary (woman). (Genesis 3:15)
Jesus crushed Satan when He died on the cross for our sins. Satan cannot accuse us for our sins. Satan cannot keep us in the grave, because we will be resurrected on Jesus' return in air.

4) Mary was engaged to Joseph, when she conceived Jesus in her womb. Although it was an extra marital conception, she was protected by Joseph without receiving the death penalty of the Law. (Matthew 1:18)

5) Mary was spiritual and had strong faith in God.

4. Who will be qualified to enter into heaven?
1) A good person 2) An honest person 3) A righteous person

Answer

A person accepted as righteous by God can enter into heaven.

5. Can you name the two ways for people to be recognized by God as righteous?

Answer

1) According to James 2:9-10, people can be righteous by keeping all the Laws.
2) According to Ephesians 2:8-9, righteousness can be obtained by trusting in Jesus and His redemptive work on the cross.

6. There are 2 kinds of medical doctor. Can you answer what they are and give examples for each?

Answer

1) There are diagnostic medical doctors, for example diagnostic Radiologist and laboratory doctor.
2) There is also therapeutic medical doctor such as surgeon and oncologist.

7.1) What does the Law do for your spiritual life?

Answer

The Laws expose any faults or sin in our spiritual lives.

2) How does Satan use the Law?

Answer

Satan accuses us and condemns us by finding our faults or sins according to the law.

3) What the Law cannot do?

Answer

The Law cannot see the good in each person. The Law cannot give a person the desire to follow the Law.

8. What does Grace do for your spiritual life?

Answer

Grace sees the good in each person. When grace sees the faults of a person with love and compassion, Grace wants to correct and treat the faults.

9. If your child brings home a school report card with 9 As, 1 B and 1 C, what would you say to him/her?

Answer

First, you should praise the child for his/her 9 As. Secondly, you should encourage the child to improve the subject with a C.

10.1) Which eyeglasses would you like to wear, the eyeglasses of the Law or the eyeglasses of grace?

Answer

I would like to wear the eyeglasses of grace.

2) What do you see through the eyeglasses of the Law?

Answer

I can only see a person's faults without love, which results in judging and criticizing.

3) What do you see through the eyeglasses of Grace?

Answer

I can see the good and the bad of the person with loving eyes. I will also seek ways to help him/her correct the faults.

Answer

I need the grace of God for my salvation.

2) What do you need to increase in knowledge of Jesus?

Answer

I need the grace of God to increase in knowledge of Jesus.

3) What do you need for your spiritual growth?

Answer

I need the grace of God for my spiritual growth. (2 Peter 3:18)

4) What do you need for serving the Lord?

Answer

I need the grace of God to serve the Lord.

5) Is there limitation to God's grace?

Answer

God's grace is without any limit. (v.16)

Life Application:

1. Do you believe Jesus' virgin birth?

Answer

2. If you see someone's fault, what would you do? (Galatians 6:1)

Answer

I would correct him/her with love and be careful not to commit similar sins. I need to examine myself first to see if I have the same faults in me.

Prayer:
Thank you Jesus! You came to us as a human flesh just like us. You did not come to me to condemn me, but to save me from my sins and to give me the needed eternal life. Help me to become humble so that I could seek for Your grace every moment of my Christian life. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
